  1. I have learned a lot from being a mentor. I have to admit it is a challenge most of the time. We have to lead them in the right path without really having any authority. They have taught me how difficult it can be to care for someone else.

  2. I'd say that being a mentor is a huge accomplishment. I have learned so much from my mentees and they make me very proud. I feel that my mentees really appreciate all the help that I give them. I believe that the only challenge I have right now is having one of my mentees not talk a lot.

  3. Being a mentor is funny to me, because sometimes my mentees try to impress but you know they're not that funny. I have grown to be really patient with them because they can be a pain in the butt. They are all really intelligent and i know theyll be so successful in life. :)

  4. Being a mentor has been by far the most difficult thing to do because sometimes you get mentiees that don't respond to your advice and act like they don't care. But overtime i have learned that they actually care when you take your time to see what they are doing and show that we are concerned about them.

  5. The mentor program has been one of the best things that has happened to CHAS. I'm glad we have this program running in our school so that we can lead the next generation to the right path. Looking back, I wish I had a mentor in 9th grade. This support system is impacting our 9th graders in such a positive way. Not only is it benefiting them, but it's also benefiting us in many ways. I hope it keeps on going, and expands all over Hawkins in the future.

  6. Being a mentor has been stressful because it was kinda hard for me to help my mentee's and at the same time handle my own business. It's also hard because sometimes I don't what to say to them to get them to open up to me . but now I think they're getting use to me and starting open up to me and come to me for advice and I really like that. being a mentor is teaching me how its difficult to care for someone else but at the same time its good to have someone who depends on you to do the right thing.

  7. Since the beginning of the year, I feel like the conversations between my mentors and I are getting better. I feel like that the topics they mention is something I can relate too where it helps my mentor and I easier to communicate. I can see that when we talk about their grades they are aware of it and control their work in a responsible way.

  8. Being a mentor has opened my eyes and see the way people think. I get along with my mentees great! They actually trust me and I have seen them grow so much in these past few months. It was actually really cute when one of my mentees told me that she missed me. Having someone that looks up to you in school is actually really overwhelming and honestly makes me feel great about myself. I am looking forward to these last few months helping them so they can have a great start to 10th grade.

  9. The weekly check ins with my mentees has been getting better. I have seen a lot of improvements from 2 of my mentees which make me feel proud knowing that I have not given up on them. Although I am still struggling to help one of my mentees, I am continuing to talk and check in with her.

  12. Being a mentor can be really hard sometimes because no matter how bad I to try to keep my commitment, it can be difficult when I have to keep my grade up at the same time. Im really proud of the improvements I've been seeing though :D

  14. Being a mentor has been both hard and rewarding. It has been hard to talk to all my mentees, but i have worked out a schedule to meet with all of them. I just hope the time i spend with them they actually enjoy it and not see it as something they have be part of. It has been really good we talk about some troubles they have to their plans on the weekend so its something good for both of us to enjoy. I just got a new mentee and i just met her last week and she was a very nice person.

  16. Being a mentor is such a big responsibility... it gave me the opportunity to help my mentees and guide them in the right path. Sometimes though is really challenging because at the end of the day they're younger and they just want to fun. I have to say that I am really proud of them because they're trying and giving their best.

  17. Being a mentor is not easy at all. So far my mentee has been great. i only get to see one of my mentees during advisory because the other one is never there she comes late, or she leaves. I have tried to talk to her into being in homeroom, but she doesn't say anything. I don't know how to tell her to show up to homeroom. The mentee that i do see, she is great and i feel so good that now she is not that shy with me. she is a really shy person, but with me she is kind of getting over it. I hope i actually make a change in her life.

  18. For me being a mentor has been ok, I do not find it hard but it is not easy either. Sometimes I feel a little bit frustrated and upset because I really want to help my mentees but not every time they want to open up, but i just keep being patient because I know I am doing everything I can and that at the end I will see the chance and good results.

  22. Being a mentor has been challenging because sometimes my mentees don't want to talk or open up to me. There was this one time where me and Jessica went to the conference room to do the activities that Derrick did with us, with our mentees and one of my mentees didn't want to participate. I had a talk with her but she just doesn't seem to care and I don't know how to help her because she doesn't want to do anything. She's my main focus right now because I'm concerned that she feels the same way towards school and classwork.

  25. This week I plan to check in with all three of my mentees and ask them how they're doing, not only academically but in general as well. My plan is to get them to log into their engrade so I can see their grades. I also want to give them advice on how they can improve their grades if they have any bad grades. If they have good grades and are on top of their work I will talk to them about other things like clubs they could join and ask what their plan is to continue to get good grades throughout high school.

  30. Last week i didn't get to see my mentee on wednesday because of the cahsee, but i did talk to her on the day of the field trip. she was alone and i wanted to spend the time with her since she was alone, but i feel like she didn't want me around, she was shy. This week i might not see her because i have to take pictures for RISE school for the yearbook. Next week i will be talking to her about her grades to see if she is passing her classes. since we only have 10 weeks of school left i would like her to have the best grades that she can.

  31. Being a mentor is interesting, but sometimes a little difficult. My mentees have opened up a lot. I find it really difficult knowing I have to be a good role model. I also gained patience when I'm with them.

  41. Last week i didn't have to chance to check up on my mentees. Today i went to check up on one of them and i noticed that with everything that's going on with the seniors right now he is more interested in learning/ getting to know about what he needs to do and what are the requirements to be able to get to senior year and do the we are doing like panorama pictures, prom, etc. My mentee also told me that even if he messes up he's not letting that affect him , he will still find a way to catch up and make it through high school. I believe this mentorship program is helping our 9th graders & also us. Each day we talk to them we have to learn how to be more patient and interact with them in a way in which we don't seem like we're bossing them around and sometimes it's tough to deal with them, but it's all a matter of learning and having patience. I hope the mentorship program keeps on going throughout the years at Hawkins.
