  4. UNFORTUNATELY for my fellow interns and I we have yet to be admitted into our work place and thus we have no experience from which we can share with our other fellow interns. WE ARE DREADFULLY SORRY!

  5. My experience with St. Johns was really awesome working with Pablo. Going to the park to talk about things was a real ice breaker for our main objective. We also practiced our public speaking and got honest feed back from our peers. overall my first few days at my internship was legit.

  10. My internship at St. Johns for the homeless service was okay. The first day all we talked about was how we define in homeless. The second day which was last friday was quite boring. He showed us a powerpoint of places in south central that we and others can have access to. I also think my supervisor talks waaaaay to much. I'm looking forward to this wednesday because we're going to make baggies for the homeless.

  11. My first day at Azla Ethiopian Food was great! Nes is a really nice lady. I got to talk a little about myself and I met the rest of team that I am going to be working with. Nes also asked me if i wanted to keep being an intern after senior year is over and I said yes. She told me that I was going to be in the kitchen helping prepare the dishes. I am very excited about that! Lastly, I got to eat one of their dishes and it was really good. For a first day, it was a great experience.

  13. My internship with Esperanza was good. The building where the organizations is located at is really pretty and the mercado la paloma is really nice! They have many food restaurants which I hope we get to try soon. Our supervisor is really cool, she gave us some background information on the organization Esperanza community housing. Their organization helps families with low income receive affordable 3 bedroom apartments. Aside from the community housing they have other departments where they work with children with disabilities , families with asthma and how to help people be more healthy. On Friday, she gave us a tour through out the community and showed us the different buildings/apartments Esperanza owns. It was really interesting.

My first week at internship was great. I really love the people in my department, we all get along really well. Pablo is really caring and encourages us to do our best and help us with developing our public speaking skills even more. On the first day we did two activities. One involved standing on three chairs and getting questions thrown at us. The second activity involved Pablo giving us a word and us having to give a speech on that specific word. On Friday, we took a trip to the park and had a deep talk, it was really helpful to open up with each other. I'm very excited because we are going to hike and have outings with people in the departments.

  16. My first week of internship at St. John's was good, but i feel like it could be better. I am sitting next to a women stamping forms with the insurance stamp, doctors name, and the location of the clinic. it was easy to learn but very confusing to do. Everyone there is really nice and so is my supervisor. They told me that this week I won't be stamping papers anymore, i'm looking forward to that.

  17. I got placed at Esperanza's Community Housing and at first i was a little skeptical because it wasn't even one of my options. However, i am very glad to be there. I got an excellent supervisor who is very kind and easy for us to relate to. She explained to us how Esperanza Community Housing was created and why. I learned about the different projects they are currently working on like NEOP which focuses on the importance of good nutrition and staying active. They showed us around their entire facility and the downstairs Mercado which is very nice. Sandy also drove us around the community showing us their apartments, a park they built, and one of the oiling sites that they are working to shut down. I can't wait to really get started working on a project and learning more about the things they've done and continue to do and maybe even be able to bring it back to Hawkins.

  22. My week at my internships was pretty good, it made me feel really exiting about helping the new comers succeed. The first day I met with my instructor and she just went over what are we going to be doing and when. I did not met with her the second day with her because she was absent but I made a plan with my group about what are we going to be doing while working with them.

  25. My internship is at Saint Johns clinic so far we have talked and worked on improving our public speaking skills, outreaching, and organizing skills. We practiced in standing up in the middle of a crowd and giving a speech that we weren't prepared for. we also spent a day in the park in which we all shared different ideas in how to improve the community.

I want to help them feel comfortable in this country. We are going to give them a mentor so they can share sad but also happy experiences with our mentors. also our mentors are going to help them with their classes and homework.

  29. My first week in internship in Esperanza house was great we met our supervisor Sandy's who was amazing she is such a goofy person that i'll enjoy my time with her. I'm glad i'm part of this specific internship the place is amazing although is a bit hidden i know ill enjoy my time there. We started off by getting to meet the staff in Esperanza's house and getting to know Sandy's more.We also learned more about Sandy's project she is trying her best to get rid of oil companies because they affect the health of people around the community. We also learned how Esperanza's house owns homes for people with low income. Then on Wednesday we went on a little cruise around the community to see the different homes from esperanza and we got the chance to actually go inside one of the buildings and see the oil companies right across the building and then in the other side of it was a school for children with disabilities and it's sad how all those children get affected by that oil company. Overall i had a great week at esperanza's house

  31. This past week i only attended my internship on Wednesday because i didn't feel good on friday. Something interesting that we did was we visited was the public health services in downtown we got the opportunity to see where Esperanza's house gets their resources to provide for the people. They needed our help to carry some of the stuff into the car and load it back to ezperanzas house. Another thing we did is that we started talking to sandie about making a project to bring back to the community and to find a way to connect esperanza's project to the people here at Hawkins.

Our first week as interns at the Esperanza Community Housing went well..we met our supervisor named Sandy and we couldn't have been given a better supervisor. She's worked with teenagers before and she's easily relateable which will only make our experience more enjoyable. We got to meet the staff and learn about what they do there. They are all community organizers and work with familes to get affordable housing, improve living conditions, get them informed, etc. They were all very welcoming and seemed passionate about the work they do. On Friday afternoon, Sandy took us on a tour throughout the neighborhood to get a better sense of the apartments Esperanza rents to families. We learned about their ongoing fight against a company called Allenco that drills for oil in the neighborhood.

  34. My first week at my internship site, which is Homeless Outreach, was okay. Me and three other interns are working on our fusion table project which contains resources of organizations that provide programs for homeless people. We practiced putting in information into our fusion table which is now our project that was started in January by David. We have approximately 300 resources and are working on getting more. We also practiced how to approach a homeless person and inform them about the programs that can help them.

  36. My first week at my internship which is Azla Vegan Ethiopian was good. I found out we were going to make a South Central Chopped, but for ages 6-16. Chopped is a television show for chefs around the world to compete against each other and try to make it to the last round and become the winner, the prize is I believe $10,000. I found that really cool since I always watched it.

  37. So I haven't been going to my internship one reason because of softball and two because my boss doesn't work at the YMCA anymore. However Ms. Hanson did introduce me to an idea of a new possible internship. It would take place at St. Johns. So far I think were gonna be working almost like title 10 so that's pretty interesting. I hope to be able to make it at least once a week because these softball games are almost every Wednesday and Friday. I look forward to meeting my new internship site and plan to make the best of it.
